Timeless

Yesterday morning, Tito, my older daughter was humming ” No Scrubs” by TLC in the bathroom. Now, I do not have the CD in my house. Also, I have not listened to TLC since they ruled the airwaves in the 90s and early 2000. Tito just turned 9 in April and she knows the song!!!! I reckon she might have heard it in school or play centre. Timeless, that is what a good song is. What am I driving at? On Sunday, a plane crashed into buildings in a densely populated area in Lagos, Nigeria killing all passengers on board. The information got on twitter within minutes of this unfortunate accident. I know this is no longer news and we have heard about this tragedy.

However, very little can be done for the dead even prayers are too late. After death comes judgement so my bible tells me. Although, those on the plane all died but victims of the crash remain. The victims are the displaced, the ones whose worldly goods have been razed by fire from the crash. I am a twitterholic…..I love the buzz that comes with being on twitter. I love the way we criticise and  proffer solutions to our social problems. I love the fact that I can go absolutely crazy with different antics on twitter. I love my banter with people I’ve never met.
So bang lands this problem of #danaaircrash!!!!!! Now do we continue to tweet about the problems? Do we continue to tweet about the cluelessness of President Jonathan? Do we continue to tweet about the grammatical errors of Dame Patience, the first lady? Do we continue to tweet about the corruption in the aviation industry? While we are tweeting about all these issues, the victims of the crash are hungry. The victims of Dana air crash are naked. The victims of Dana air crash are homeless. The victims of Dana air crash are without legal advice on what to do next.  Most of them are tenants and are completely lost on what their rights are. Did I say rights? I’ve being away too long to remember we are talking about Nigeria where the people are their own government.

So, I resolved to remember that talk is cheap. I decided to walk my talk and help. I love my beauty sleep and I can’t function properly without at least 8 hours of sleep. Since Sunday, I have not had anything near my usual 8 hours of sleep in a day. The things that we attach undue importance to eh!!!! In my own little way, I am contributing my quota; distance not withstanding. My driving has had to improve by fire by force because I have had to pick up relief stuffs from different locations in London. Faith without works is dead according to the bible…… I know “the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof”. I know He will intervene in Nigeria but in the meantime I have to demonstrate my faith with my works. Oh wait a second!!!! Is it possible that God wants to intervene through us? Just a thought…
Like the TLC song “Scrub”, I want my works to be timeless. Long after I’m gone; I want to be remembered that I did my best. What about you? We still need support for these victims.

Please contact me or @fowora on twitter if you are in the UK. Volunteers are still needed in Nigeria to support #danacrashaction. 1. Talk is cheap!!! This is the type of revolution we need, the type that seeks to build by taking responsibility to make things happen, not the type that wants to destroy. Well done, God bless you.

  2. If only we will have more people like U̶̲̥̅̊ that are more dedicated and selfless, Nigeria would have been a better place and our so called proficient theives of a leader. I know there names are numbered.

  3. May God bless you for the good work. Please is there a way we can extend this to the Boko Haram bomb blast victims too?
